How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows offer a host of incentives for homeowners in Lafayette, one being improved energy efficiency. Regardless if you’re researching online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is an important factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great option if you’re wanting increased efficiency.

Many new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is more dense than air, which provides additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you notice that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you may have developed a larger leak and the gas has been replaced with moisture. There are a couple things that you can do to discover if this is what’s occurred:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to be sure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you find out that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can contact the manufacturer to decide if you can claim it under your warranty.
Depending on the age of your windows and the conditions causing the leak, it could make sense to start researching replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important aspects of your windows, and if that is altered it can change your heating and cooling bills.
